  • 1 Scoop (20g) Vital Whey Cocoa
  • 1/2 Banana

Whoever invented blended coffee drinks was on to something. The combination of ice, milk, coffee, and a large amount of sugar admittedly tastes delicious. Regardless of the incredible taste, these drinks are not healthy. They can easily pack 300 calories or more, primarily from sugar. These drinks can sometimes top 600 calories depending on the size and additional toppings like whipped cream or chocolate syrup.

But you can have your drink and enjoy it too with just a few simple tweaks. We created this iced coffee protein shake recipe to help you enjoy the taste you love and avoid the sugar you don’t. Our iced mocha protein shake starts with our Vital Whey cocoa, which lends the “mocha” taste. Next add cooled coffee, coconut milk for creaminess, and a ½ a banana for a touch of sweetness. Add ice as desired and blend!

What results is a delicious mocha protein shake with a similar texture and flavor of your favorite coffee drink. But our version only contains about 20 grams of natural sugar, from the coconut milk and banana. If you prefer even less sugar, you can eliminate the banana and cut about 15 grams, although this will cut the sweetness.

Compare mocha protein shake to your “standard” blended coffee drink which has between 36 and 69 grams of sugar.

So next time you are looking for a morning blended coffee with protein or an afternoon pick me up, give this iced mocha protein shake a try.  It will surely satisfy your cravings while supporting your nutritional goals.
